Listen now:
Deidre Paknad, WorkBoard CEO: If we've learned anything this year, it's that the annual operating plan is dead. Annual is too long. You have to iterate faster on what's important to the company and to your customers. And you have to learn faster.
You can't grow fast if you manage slow. So there's a shift from slow activity management — aligning annually or twice a year to level three or four of the organization, driving backwards accountability in a cycle of people in PowerPoint meetings — to fast results management, where you align every quarter through the org chart. Everybody knows where they're going and what they're contributing in the quarter. And you drive accountability and focus every week, not backwards-facing, 90 days too late. You use continuous leading indicators and measurement of gap-to-goal. So people are making smart decisions week to week on how to optimize their outcomes and use their calories and their hours in the most efficient way. And instead of a labor-driven process, this is a data-driven and systematic process that provides pervasive transparency day-to-day, not episodic transparency at the ops reviews or the quarterly business reviews.
